I am a psychotherapist accredited with the BPC and a music therapist regulated by the HCPC. I offer long term Psychodynamic Therapy, short term Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) and Music Therapy.
I have many years' experience working as a therapist across the NHS and Third Sector settings with adults and children. I am currently a Senior Psychological Therapist within an NHS mental health service, where I provide individual and group treatments, as well as supervision for members of the clinical team.
I have completed clinical trainings at the Anna Freud Centre, the International Centre for Arts Psychotherapies and the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre.
Alongside my therapeutic work, I provide workshops and seminars for interdisciplinary teams and psychotherapy organisations, such as the Place 2 Be and the World Psychotherapy Foundation.
Services:
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an explorative approach that can help you become more aware of the processes which contribute towards emotional issues and relationship difficulties. This sometimes involves thinking about how previous experiences can repeat in different ways and can continue to influence present day feelings and behaviours. Developing an understanding of this can help reduce psychological suffering and create opportunities for meaningful change, whether it be in personal relationships, at work, or in the way you perceive yourself . Sessions are 50-minutes long and take place on a once or twice weekly basis. Treatment is open ended.
Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is a brief and effective time-limited psychodynamic model, originally developed to treat depression. Following an initial assessment, the main treatment consists of 16 sessions that take place on a once weekly basis. The therapeutic process involves 3 phases that focus on a repeating relational pattern that contributes towards depression and anxiety. Learning about these patterns can allow for new and healthier ways of being in relationships.
If you are interested in psychodynamic psychotherapy or DIT, the next step would be to book an initial consultation session to explore the issues that have brought you to therapy and to think about whether treatment could be of help to you.
Music Therapy is a psychological therapy and allied health profession regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The interactive use of music within a therapeutic relationship is a central aspect of music therapy, whether in 1:2:1 or group contexts and can involve improvised or semi structured music making or song writing. It is not necessary to have prior experience of music making to engage.
We are trained to musically tune-in and respond to the sounds, rhythms, tones and gestures of the participants play as they occur from moment to moment in order to help support, enhance or develop the musical expression. This can create an experience of being carefully listened to and understood at a non-verbal level. Experiences such as this can provide a different medium for self expression and communication whilst building awareness of self and other. This can also lead to verbal reflections, which can bring about further understanding.
We work with children and adults. Sessions are 50-minutes in length and take place on a once or twice weekly basis.
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words
and that which cannot remain silent” ― Victor Hugo
